Stefano Pilati launched the Tribute in 2004, his first year as creative director at Yves Saint Laurent. The name was a literal tribute to the house’s archive of 70s platforms. Burgundy patent leather wraps the foot in a T-strap construction, with a platform sole that makes the 12cm heel actually wearable. This design became so synonymous with mid-2000s luxury that you’d see it on every red carpet from 2004 to 2010, a true Y2K icon. The proportions are what make it work: enough platform to balance the height without looking clunky.
